Are We Becoming Zombies?

I know I’m not the only person that is extremely concerned about the state of the human race and how we are interacting with people using technology. We know we are becoming increasingly dependent on electronics of the everyday tasks like talking to people, ordering food, shopping and even job interviews! But where does it stop?

There seems to be a total disconnect between many people when they are face to face because of the interactions that are made using cell phones. I am guilty of the shifting trend of using my cell phone while talking to people, but I have managed to pull myself up before it has become a problem.

My brother mentioned the last time we spoke (via Skype we live on opposite sides of the globe) he had observed more smart phone usage than he had ever seen before in a restaurant. So when I was out for dinner the other night at Red Robin, man I love those fries… I took a moment to do a quick scan of the room and I couldn’t believe how many faces were lite up with the bright glow of LCD screens as they focused all their attention to whatever they were doing on their phone. Many had a serious frown on their face like they had received bad news; on the flipside some people had huge smiles.

These are everyday people like you and I, there is the typical couple out on a date and couple of guys catching up for a drink. Other than the kitchen noise and background music and the shuffle of waitresses bringing food and drinks, it was lacking the common sound of talking. Other times I have been out I’ve seen people texting a person who is sitting next to them, it’s like the mouth only seems to open to intake food.
