Facebook Has Eyes on RIM

More than just rumors, a Facebook insider has leaked that current discussion are on the table about a possible takeover offer for Blackberry device maker RIM, but not until RIM has settled with Mformation Technologies Inc . This week Mformation successful sued RIM for $147m for not licensing patented server technologies used by RIM from 1998 until recent, leaving the company with more vulnerability than ever.

So should Facebook go ahead and make an offer that stock holders at RIM can’t refuse? Many people think that it would be a bad investment for Facebook. Personally I think it would be in the social networks best interest to have its own communication devices to complete their mission of destroying people’s privacy, which most people are very willing to have done.

I hope that RIM can hold on and get through this storm of woes that it has endured the last 3 or 4 years, because it would be a crying shame if they were to be taken over by a company like Facebook that has a bad track record in regards to respect for people’s privacy.
