The merger of T-Mobile USA and MetroPCS was a bit of a shock for customers of both companies not just the shareholders. When the merger is completed the company will be using just the T-Mobile brand dissolving the MetroPCS brand eventually.
For T-Mobile customers there is going to be finally a path to 4G LTE and an even larger network base and customers. For customers of both MetroPCS and T-Mobile there is a good outlook as the benefits for the merger is a move to newer LTE technologies on GSM networks.
According to the press release there will be a migration over to GSM LTE 4G which will be really fast given that even the HSPA+ network from T-Mobile currently offers speeds that can out do many of the LTE providers that are currently using the technology.
T-Mobile as a prepaid brand is going to be able to offer a lot lower rates, so it will be the one to watch as the network expands and gives Verizon, Sprint and AT&T a reason to bring down absorbent prices.
The merger also means T-Mobile as an MVNO will be stronger and appear on more prepaid MVNO brands like Tracfone’s range of brands and many others.
T-Mobile LTE and T-Mobile Prepaid LTE will be pushed through as soon as the architecture is setup, competing directly with AT&T’s upcoming GoPhone LTE.
